This sandstone beauty was built in 1556, across the river from the Taj Mahal. During the construction of the Taj, one of the sons decided that Dad was spending way too much for the construction of the memorial, so he imprisoned Dad in the Agra Fort, with a window view to monitor how it was all going!
The fort comes with a moat and a draw bridge. It is also visited by many locals, and us tourists were more than a novelty. We were photographed, randomly touched, generally stared at, and a handshake from a very small boy.
You can walk around about 30% of the 2.5 km facility. The balance of the property is inhabited by the Army, who visible presence of roving men with machine guns can be a somber reminder of where we are.
