The next morning we sat in a cafe near the beach to grab a bite before heading to the fishing park. Little did we know that was the best bite we were going to get all morning! With a voucher to the park out of the entertainment book, it was a neat $20 for entry, bait and rod hire (www.suncoastbarrafishing.com).
At the start of the session everyone was keen. With each passing moment and complete lack of appearing action across the park, things quickly moved to alternative forms of entertainment, but still holding a beaming smile.
Then the youngster set about scouring the region for treasures. She did actually find a collection of hooks and sinkers, which did prove useful when the one and only bite took off with our hook!
We were joined about the half way mark by a retired Victorian couple, being entertained from their earlier visits where fish were actually landed. We also learnt that you can bring your own bait into the facility, instead of using the annoying little stinking pellets.
At the end of our session we gladly headed out of the park. The operators enquired on the way as to our progress, and I gave them the honest answer. Turns out they were happy to provide us free entry for another day. So no doubt we will head back later on in the year to try our hand at Barra fishing # 3. I guess if they were easy to catch, then there wouldn't be one on the list of goals!
After being patiently bored to death, I promised that we could visit a beach and do some more sea shell spotting before returning home. Lucky for us, Mum jagged the jackpot beach for shells.
